Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Office Technician (Typing) responsibilities include the clerical and technical support for all staff assigned to the Central Regional Office.

  • Organize and maintain records of official microbiological, pathogen and compositional laboratory analyses of milk and milk products, and any associated compliance reports, in a timely and effective manner

  • Organize and update dairy farm and processing plant information by independently researching the current status, including communications with Central regional staff

  • Review and determine distribution and mail laboratory sample results to producer, plant, soft-serve, and retail establishments

  • Organize and track on a spreadsheet program milk product plant and dairy farm inspection reports and official scores

  • Independently create original correspondence, draft memoranda, letters, documents, and various reports for the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) and Environmental Scientists to dairies and milk processing plants regarding their status as permittees and licensees

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are primarily conducted indoors. The incumbent’s workstation is located in the Central Regional Office. The workstation is equipped with standard office equipment including a personal computer with various software programs.


The incumbent must follow CDFA, Division, and Branch employee health and safety policies.


Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent’s ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA’s Telework Policy. A complete list of working conditions can be found in the Duty Statement.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted with your Employment Application (STD. 678).
